Father’s Day and Infertility

Father’s Day can be a touchy subject for some people. The loss or estrangement from a father or child can make some people feel bitter or jaded towards a day designed to celebrate fatherhood. This day can also be hard for men who want to be fathers but for one reason or another are not able to. This day can also be one of great joy for fathers and men who were finally able to become fathers. So, how can we celebrate this day with our fathers and children while still being respectful for those who do not get to? The easy answer is by remembering those who do not get to for one reason or another while we celebrate and appreciate our own fathers. Giving a hug to someone who cannot celebrate this day or just letting them know that you are thinking about them can go a long way to helping ease some of the hurt of losing a father or child or not being able to have a child. Taking the time to do something with a child who has lost or is estranged from their father can also help them not feel isolated by all of the images they see of happy dads with their kids.

My husband and I celebrate Father’s Day with our dads, but also use this day to remember that God has a plan for us and that we must trust in this plan when it comes to our fertility. He alone knows when we will get to finally celebrate Father’s Day with children of our own.

I hope you all have a happy Father’s Day and I pray that God will ease some of the hurt for those who are estranged or have lost a father or child.
